Session 7

The Plan (Apparently I Needed One)

Sofia decided I need structure. I thought I had one. Turns out I had vibes. She built a plan. I negotiated creative freedom.

INT. MATCHMAKING OFFICE – DAY
Bright, focused daylight. The GOLDEN FLAMINGO is standing next to a whiteboard. This feels intentional. I don’t like it.
Sofia is already standing, marker in hand, like she’s about to present quarterly results.
ME
Why is there a whiteboard?
SOFIA C.
Because today we bring structure into your life.
ME
I have structure.
SOFIA C.
You have momentum.
ME
That sounds better.
She gives me a look. Not convinced.
SOFIA C.
Let me explain how I usually work with my clients.
She writes three words on the board: POSITIONING. INTERACTION. SELECTION.
ME
This looks expensive.
SOFIA C.
It is.
A small smile. Slightly dangerous.
SOFIA C.
Step one: Positioning.
Who are you, what do you want, and how clearly is that visible?
ME
I’m charismatic. I want a partner. I built a website.
SOFIA C.
You’re simplifying.
ME
I’m branding.
She ignores that.
SOFIA C.
Step two: Interaction.
How you show up in real moments.
Not what you say in theory. What you do in conversation, in silence, in uncertainty.
ME
I’m excellent in silence.
SOFIA C.
You fill silence immediately.
ME
Strategically.
She almost smiles.
SOFIA C.
Step three: Selection.
Not everyone who likes you is right for you.
And not everyone you like is aligned with your life.
A brief pause.
SOFIA C.
Most people fail here.
ME
I prefer “exploring options.”
SOFIA C.
You prefer not deciding.
That lands.
She steps back and looks at the board like an artist evaluating her work.
SOFIA C.
This is the framework.
Position yourself clearly.
Interact authentically.
Select intentionally.
She turns to me.
SOFIA C.
Now we apply it to you.
ME
I was afraid you’d say that.
SOFIA C.
Your positioning is strong.
You’re clear, intentional, and visible.
Your interaction is…
She pauses deliberately.
ME
Impressive?
SOFIA C.
Entertaining.
ME
I’ll take it.
SOFIA C.
Your selection needs discipline.
Silence.
ME
I prefer optionality.
SOFIA C.
You prefer comfort.
She steps closer.
SOFIA C.
You want something real.
That requires choosing.
A moment. Eye contact lingers slightly longer than necessary.
ME
So what’s the plan?
SOFIA C.
Simple.
You continue what you’re doing.
But you become more selective.
Less impressed by attention. More focused on alignment.
She caps the marker.
SOFIA C.
And we refine from there.
ME
This feels suspiciously like accountability.
SOFIA C.
It is.
The GOLDEN FLAMINGO is now standing directly next to the word “SELECTION.”
